他地域にはない貴重なカシラも現存！約300年前から伝わる3人遣いの人形芝居

物部（もののべ）神社の祭礼に奉納されている、本巣市上真桑の本郷地区に伝わる人形芝居。約300年前に灌漑（かんがい）用水問題の功労者・福田源七郎の亡魂を弔うために演じたのが始まりとされ、『真桑誉義農源七郎（まくわのほまれぎのうげんしちろう）』をはじめ約20演目が伝わっています。浄瑠璃の語りと三味線に合わせ、一体の人形を3人で操るのが特徴。人形のカシラには200年以上昔に作られたとされるものも多く、文献に名を残すものの他地域には伝わっていないカシラも現存しています。

国の重要有形民俗文化財に指定されている「真桑の人形舞台」で上演。回り床、田楽返し、太夫座など、演出効果を高める機構を備えています。

Irreplaceable puppet heads that exist no place else -A 300-year-old puppet play featuring three puppeteers-

This puppet theater has been passed down through the generations in the Kamimakuwa Hongo area of Motosu city, offered as a ritual at the Mononobe Shrine. This performance has its beginnings some 300 years ago, as a ritual to comfort the soul of Fukuda Gentaro, who was honored for his role in resolving irrigation issues, after his passing. A total of 20 related musical pieces have survived to this day, including Makuwano-homaregi-no-ugenshichiro”. This performance is characterized by a joruri narrator, shamisen music, and three puppeteers manipulating one puppet. Many of the puppet heads were made more than 200 years ago. Some are unique to this area, despite being described in written materials of other areas.

This performance is part of the Makuwa puppet theater, which has been named an important national folk tangible cultural property. It is enhanced by elements such as a revolving floor, a backdrop changing device, narrator seat, and more.
