350年以上にわたり小集落に受け継がれる！子孫繁栄・五穀豊穣を祈願する伝統的な神の舞

錦川沿いにあるわずか40数戸の小さな集落・行波で、1668年から受け継がれてきた神楽。華美に走ることなく、神楽歌「四季の歌」などの伝統的な形式が脈々と継承されています。足掛け7年ごとの4月初旬には、当地河川敷に神殿（かんどん）を設けて他に類を見ない規模の「式年祭」が行われ、八鬼神・八奉吏（ほうり）や松登りが登場する「八関（はっせき）」のほか全12座の演目が披露されます。また、毎年10月には地元の鎮守・荒玉社（あらたましゃ）境内において、その一部が奉納されています。

少し前かがみの姿勢で、両足を小早く踏み返る独特な足運びが多用されます。回っては回り返す「順逆」の舞い方をするのも特長です。

This special kagura ritual dance has been carried on by the tiny village of Yukaba, which consists of just 40 houses along the Nishiki River. Instead of glamour, this humble kagura features songs of the four seasons and other traditional features, the heart of which is perpetuated to this day. Every seven years
, at the beginning of the month of April, this festival-of a scale unseen anywhere else-is held at a shrine along a riverbed. A total of twelve plays are staged, including “Eight Fierce Gods,” “Eight Servants,” and “Hasseki,” which features pine tree climbing. Part of the festival is held every October at the local Aratamasha Shrine grounds.

This dance involves frequent use of a unique move where the dancer quickly steps back with both feet from a slightly hunched position. It features a unique technique of turning and then turning back.
