全長約18mの手作りロケットが空を飛ぶ！空へのロマンに満ちたユニークな神事

椋（むく）神社例大祭に奉納する神事として代々伝承されてきた、農民による手作りロケット「龍勢」。発射台は、神社から約300m離れた山ぎわに設けられる高さ約25mの櫓です。導火線に火を入れると、全長約18mの龍勢が白煙に包まれ、轟音とともに火を吹いて空高く舞い上がります。龍勢は、松材の丸太をくり抜いて竹のタガで補強し、黒色火薬を詰めて製造。各流派が秘伝の技術と独自の工夫を凝らし約1年間かけて作りあげる、知的好奇心と真心の結晶です。

発射前に声自慢が述べる「口上」も、龍勢の名物。「東西、東西～、ここに掛け置く龍の次第は・・・」という独特の節回しが特長です。

This Shinto ritual, passed down through generations as part of the Muku Shrine Festival, involves a rocket made by local farmers, called “Ryusei.” It is launched from a 25-meter-tall platform on the mountainside, approximately 300 meters from the shrine. When the fuse is lit, the 18-meter-tall Ryusei is enveloped in white smoke, taking off with a loud roar and propelled through the sky.
Ryusei is made from a pine log reinforced with bamboo hoops and filled with black gunpowder. Meticulously crafted over the course of about a year with secret techniques from different traditions and original methods, this rocket embodies the curiosity and sincerity of the people who make it.

This rocket-launching ritual is characterized by a special chant prior to launch sung by skilled voices: “East to west, the dragon flies in this place…”
