海の神霊を迎えた祭壇に、神仏を飾る！海人たちの古い信仰を伝える築山行事

富山県射水市では曳山・築山という2つの山行事が一体となって伝承され、放生津八幡宮の秋季例大祭で行われています。特に全国的にも珍しいのが「築山行事」です。海から招いた神霊を境内の臨時祭壇「築山」に迎え、10月2日に姥髪（オンババ）・仏門守護の四天王（多聞天王、持国天王、増長天王、廣目天王）などの飾り人形を安置して公開。「八幡様の神様は海からやってこられる」という海人たちの古い信仰の形態を見ることができます。

10月1日の「曳山行事」では、神輿の神幸に13基の曳山が供奉。昼は花傘山、夜は提灯山となって旧新湊市街地を巡行します。

In Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture, two traditional events featuring a float, one called “Hikiyama” and the other “Tsukuyama”, have been passed on as a single event as part of the annual autumn festival at Hojozu Hachimangu shrine. The Tsukiyama event is particularly unusual in Japan.

Deities called the “Tsukiyama”, who come from the ocean, are invited to a temporary altar on the shrine grounds. On October 2nd, decorative dolls, including representations of onbaba and four protectors of Buddhism and more, will be shown to the public. This is an example of the old belief that the deities of Hachiman come from the sea.

On October 1, The Hikiyama Festival features the parading of portable shrines as well as 13 hikiyama floats. The procession of floral umbrellas during the day and lanterns at night winds through the old Shin-minato neighborhood.
