巨大な神輿と幟（のぼり）山笠が、川を練り渡る！華やかで勇ましい福岡県五大祭りの一角

福岡県五大祭りの一つに数えられる、16世紀から続く伝統的な祭礼です。風治八幡宮と白鳥神社から出発した絢爛豪華な大神輿2基、そして5色のバレンを飾り立てた10台余りの幟山笠が、威勢のよい掛け声とともに町中を練り歩きます。最大の見どころは、大神輿と幟山笠の川渡り。熱気あふれる競争を繰り広げながら、勇ましく川瀬を練り渡る様は圧巻です。いなせな采配振りが幟山笠の台上で吹く号笛など、祭り囃子が町内に響きわたります。

神輿と幟山笠は、彦山川を渡って右岸にある御旅所で一泊します。夜は提灯でライトアップされ、幻想的な表情に魅了されます。

This traditional festival, which has been perpetuated since the 16th century, is included amongst the Five Great Festivals of Fukuoka Prefecture. Two gorgeously embellished portable shrines from Fujihachinagu and Shiratori Shrine, and ten Nobori Yamakasa decorated in five colors, wind their way through the town accompanied by spirited calls. Perhaps the most spectacular part of this festival is the crossing of the river of the large portable shrines and Nobori Yamakasa floats featuring colorful streamers; it is truly a sight to see as they boldly wind their way through the rapids in a heated competition. Meanwhile, the festival music reverberates through the town, featuring a flute played atop the Nobori Yamakasa.

Portable shines and Nobori Yamakasa floats are kept overnight at special spots on the right bank of the Hikosangawa River. At night, the area is lit up by paper lanterns, creating a mysterious, magical effect.
