円錐形のトンドウを、小学生が周る！豊漁を願う、漁村に伝わる左義長行事

鳥取市気高町酒津で行われる、無病息災や豊漁を願う左義長行事です。1月14日、高さ約4～5mの松を中心に12本の孟宗竹を立てかけて円錐形のトンドウを作り、鯛や扇子、ミノグミのしめ縄飾り、各家庭の正月飾りを設置。午後2時になると、上半身裸になった小学生の男子たちが海水で身を清め、海藻のモクを手に「ワッショイ、ワッショイ」の掛け声とともにトンドウを3周します。翌朝5時半にトンドウに火を入れると、大きな火柱が夜空を焦がします。

小学生たちは各家庭の玄関先で「ハラエタマエ、キヨエタマエ」と唱える「こり」の儀礼を行い、トンドウ宿で赤飯を食べます。

A ritual of fire held in Sakenotsu, Tetaka Town, Tottori City, in prayers for blessings such as good health and bountiful catches of fish. On January 14th, a cone is made by propping 12 moso bamboo shoots on a roughly 4-to-5-meter-tall pine as various homes put up New Year decorations such as sea bream, folding fans, and sacred straw ropes. At 2 p.m., shirtless elementary-age boys purify themselves with seawater and circle the cone three times to shouts of “wasshoi, wasshoi” with bundles of seaweed in their hands. At 5:30 the following morning, a huge pillar of fire burns the night sky when the cone is lit.
The elementary school students then visit various homes and perform a ceremony where they chant “haraetamae kiyoetamae” before going to the “cone house” to eat festive red rice.
