高さ約4mもの竹細工は鳳凰の羽のよう！1,200年も続く名刹に伝わる太鼓踊り

798年創建の谷汲山華厳寺は、日本最古の観音霊場「西国三十三所観音霊場」の第三十三番札所として「巡礼の終着駅」とも呼ばれる名刹です。種まきや田植えの季節を控えた2月18日に豊作を願って「豊年祈願祭」が行われ、800余年前から伝わる「谷汲踊」が奉納されます。目を見張るのは、鳳凰の羽を模した、高さ約4mにも及ぶ扇状の竹細工「シナイ」。揃いの衣服をまとってシナイをくねらせ、胸に抱えた太鼓を打ち鳴らして踊る、勇壮な踊りに魅せられます。

11時の旧名鉄谷汲駅前、13時の谷汲門前駐車場に続き、14時には谷汲山華厳寺の仁王門前で谷汲踊が披露されます。

Tanigumisan Kegonji Temple, which was built in 798, is the famous 33rd temple that issues amulets on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, which is Japan’s oldest Kannon pilgrimage. For this reason, it is also known as the “final stop of the pilgrimage”. A festival in prayers for a rich harvest throughout the year is held on February 18, right before the seed and rice planting season, and the “Tanigumi Dance”, which has been passed down for over 800 years, is offered. A spectacular sight is the fan-shaped “shinais”, which are bamboo ornaments resembling the wings of a phoenix and standing 4 meters tall. The gallant dances where the performers in matching costumes wriggle these shinais as they beat drums on their chests will captivate you.
Following the area in front of the former Meitetsu Tanigumi Station at 11 a.m. and the Tanigumi Monzen parking area at 1 p.m., the Tanigumi Dance will be performed in front of the Nio Gate of Tanigumisan Kegonji Temple at 2 p.m.
