百数十台もの屋台が奉納される！ 秋の四国を代表する雄々しくも優美な祭り

江戸時代から続く「西条まつり」は、五穀豊穣に感謝して行われる4社（伊曽乃神社、嘉母神社、石岡神社、飯積神社）の例祭の総称。華麗な彫刻や金糸の刺繍に彩られた屋台（だんじり、みこし、太鼓台）とともに、氏子たちが市内を練り歩きます。伊曽乃神社祭礼のクライマックスである「川入り」では、80台あまりの屋台が加茂川に勢揃いし神輿を奉送します。川の中でだんじり十数台が神輿の宮入を阻もうと競り合うシーンは圧巻です。

10月15日未明から行われる伊曽乃神社例大祭。数千もの西条提灯にはろうそくの火が灯され、幻想的な風景を醸し出します。

The “Saijo Festival”, which has been held since the Edo period, consists in an annual celebration held in thanks to good harvests at four shrines (Isono Shrine, Kamo Shrine, Ishioka Shrine, and Iizumi Shrine). Shrine parishioners walk through the streets with various floats (danjiri floats, portable shrines, and drum stands) decorated with exquisite engravings and golden embroidery. Over 80 floats gather at Kamo River as portable shrines are dedicated to and delivered into Kamo River during the climax of the Isono Shrine Festival. The scene where the dozens of danjiri floats in the river try to keep each other from entering the shrine is overwhelming.

The Isono Shrine Festival starts in the early hours of October 15. Thousands of Saijo lanterns are lit with candles creating a surreal scene.
