神話上の霊獣・麒麟（きりん）が舞う！　因幡・但馬地方に370年伝わる民俗芸能

鳥取県東部（因幡）と兵庫県北但西部（但馬）の神社で、長年奉納され続けている獅子舞。太平の世に現れるという中国神話上の霊獣「麒麟（きりん）」をかたどった獅子頭は、神社ごとに異なり、黄金色の肌、額の一本角、笑みを含んだユーモラスな表情などが印象的です。面・髪・衣装など全てが赤く染められた猩猩（しょうじょう）が先導し、ゆっくり頭を回したり体をひねったりとダイナミックな舞を披露。厳かで不可侵な神聖さが漂います。

麒麟獅子に頭を噛まれると、子どもは賢くなり、大人は一年間無病息災に過ごせるという言い伝えがあります。


The dancing of the mythical and sacred beast “Kirin”!
A folk performing art that has been performed in the Inaba/Tajima region for 370 years.

A lion dance that has been dedicated to shrines in the eastern part of Tottori Prefecture (Inaba) and the northwestern part of Hyogo Prefecture (Tajima) for ages. The lion head shaped like the sacred beast, the “Kirin”, which appears in Chinese mythology and is said to appear during a period of peace and tranquility, differs from shrine to shrine and features golden skin, a single horn on its forehead, and a humorous expression on its face. It gives a dynamic dance performance slowly rotating its head and twisting its body as it is led by a drunk orangutan that has been dyed entirely red including its face, hair, and costume. Feel a sense of sacredness that is both stately and inviolable.

It is said that children whose heads are bitten by a Kirin lion become smart and that adults whose heads are bitten can spend the entire year in good health.
