祭概要

約800年前から八戸地方に受け継がれる、豊年満作を祈る民俗芸能「えんぶり」。「太夫（たゆう）」と呼ばれる舞い手が馬の頭をかたどった華やかな烏帽子をかぶり、頭を大きく振るように摺（す）り（舞い）ます。ゆっくりと優雅に舞う「ながえんぶり」とテンポの速い「どうさいえんぶり」があり、いずれも稲作の動作を表現。現在も八戸市を中心に30以上の組が活動を続けており、毎年2月の4日間には市内各所で公演・行列などを見ることができます。

期間中の夜は八戸市庁前広場で「かがり火えんぶり」を開催。かがり火が焚かれ、昼とは異なる雰囲気の中で、太夫の摺りやお囃子を楽しめます。


Enburi is a folk performing art held in prayer for a year of a full harvest that has been passed down for roughly 800 years in the Hachinohe area. The dancers, called Tayu, wear brilliantly-ornamented Shinto hats shaped like horses’ heads and wildly sway their heads as they dance. There is the “Naga-enburi”, which is performed slowly and gracefully, and the “Dosai-enburi”, which has a quick tempo. Both of them depict rice cultivation. There are still currently over 30 active groups, mostly in Hachinohe City, and their performances and processions can be seen at various locations within the city for 4 days every February.

Bonfire enburi performances are held at night at the square in front of Hachinohe City Hall during this period. Bonfires are lit and dances by Tayu performers as well as music can be enjoyed in an atmosphere that is different from that of daytime.
