身の丈4m85cmの大男「弥五郎どん」が市街地を威風堂々と練り歩く！

「弥五郎どん」とは、25反もの梅染めの衣をまとい、ギョロリまなこに太い眉、大小2刀を腰に携えた勇ましい大男。穀物の豊作や地方守護の先導役として、約900年前から地域で親しまれてきました。夜中1時に「弥五郎どんが起きっどー」のふれ太鼓で目覚め、朝6時頃に身支度を整え、岩川八幡神社の境内で網に引かれ、巨体をやおら起こします。午後に行われる「浜下り」は必見。境内を出た弥五郎どんが、約3時間にわたり市街地を練り歩きます。

名物「弥五郎どんのイナバウアー」。力強い太鼓や観客の声援に包まれながら、巨体を大きく反らし岩川高架橋をくぐります。

See the 4.85-meter-tall man “Yagoro Don” boldly walking through the streets! Yagoro Don is a huge gallant man who wears a 313 square-meter plum-dyed garment, has large eyes and thick eyebrows, and wears long and short swords on his waist. He is the provider of bountiful harvests and guardian of the region, and has been revered in the province since roughly 900 years ago. He is woken up at 1 a.m. to cries of “Yagoro Don has awaken” and the beating of drums. He is then dressed up at around 6 a.m. and pulled over to the grounds of Iwagawa Hachiman Shrine, where his huge body is raised up. The Hamakudari parade held in the afternoon is one of the highlights of the event. Yagoro Don walks through the streets of the urban area of the city for roughly three hours after leaving the grounds of the shrine. Yagoro Don’s famous Ina Bauer. He is surrounded by the powerful beating of drums and cheers from the crowd as his huge body is bent over backwards while passing under the Iwagawa elevated bridge.
