中国の旧正月（春節）を祝う行事として始まった祭りで、長崎の冬を彩る一大風物詩として100万人超の人々が集まります。長崎新地中華街などの市内中心部に約15,000個もの中国ランタンなどが飾られ、長崎の街は極彩色の灯で彩られます。皇帝・皇后の御輿を中心に総勢約150人が豪華な中国衣装をまとって練り歩く「皇帝パレード」や「中国獅子舞」「龍踊り」「中国雑技」など、中国色豊かなイベントも満載。浜んまち会場ではショッピングも楽しめます。
大小さまざまなオブジェも、街を賑やかに照らします。大きいものは高さ約10mにも及び、見る者を圧倒します。

長崎新地中華街、中央公園など

It started as a festival that celebrated the former Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year) and now attracts over a million people as a major event that brightens up Nagasaki in the winter. Areas in central Nagasaki City such as Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown are decorated with roughly 15,000 Chinese lanterns to brighten up the streets of the city. It is filled with Chinese-themed events such as the Emperor's Parade, where roughly 150 participants in extravagant Chinese clothes surround a float with a Chinese emperor and empress, lion dances, dragon dances, and a Chinese circus. Shopping can also be enjoyed at the Hamanmachi venue.
Artwork of all sizes also decorate the streets. There is even a piece that stands an astounding 10 meters in height.
