約15,000人が舞い踊る「大民謡流し」や、約4,000人で担ぐ「市民みこし」は大迫力

Japan’s largest Grand Minyo Parade!
The roughly 15,000 dancers and portable shrines carried by roughly 4,000 citizens are magnificent.

新潟市の中心街で、多彩な催しが繰り広げられる3日間。特に盛り上がるのが8月9日の「大民謡流し」です。揃いの浴衣に身を包んだ約15,000人もの踊り手が、新潟県の民謡「新潟甚句」「佐渡おけさ」に合わせて舞う様は圧巻。萬代橋をはじめ繁華街のあちこちで踊りの輪がはじけ、観光客も飛び入り参加が可能です。8月10日に催される、7基の神輿を約4,000人で担いで古町通りを練り歩く「市民みこし」や、港の発展を願う「水上みこし渡御」なども見物です。

Three days of various events are held in the downtown area of Niigata City. The Grand Minyo Parade, held on August 9, is particularly exciting. The sight of the roughly 15,000 dancers in matching summer kimonos performing to the Minyo songs of Niigata Prefecture, “Niigata Jinku” and “Sado Okesa”, is overwhelming. Dances are held at various spots including Bandai Bridge and various entertainment districts, and tourists are also welcome to participate. See seven portable shrines being carried by citizens down Furumachi-dori Street by roughly 4,000 people, as well as portable shrines being carried over the harbor water in prayer for its development.

8月10日・11日に開催される「住吉行列」。古式ゆかしい衣装をまとった1kmにも及ぶ行列が、市内を練り歩きます。

The Sumiyoshi Procession is held on August 10 and 11. A 1-kilometer-long procession of people walking through the streets clad in traditional costumes.
