高知市内に点在する9カ所の競演場と7カ所の演舞場に集うのは、なんと約200チーム・約18,000人の踊り子たち。圧倒的なスケールで行われる、日本有数の踊りの祭典です。「ピシッ」と涼しい音を放つ鳴子を手に、各チームが思い思いの衣装・音楽・踊りで見物客を魅了。1チーム100人前後による一糸乱れぬ群舞は、南国・高知の町を揺らし、見る者に感動を覚えさせます。8月9日には「花火大会」、8月12日には「全国大会」も開催されます。
古典的な踊りから、ロックバンド演奏に合わせた踊りまで、チームごとに工夫を凝らした独創的な演技が続きます。

200 teams consisting of 18,000 dancers gather at nine arenas and seven theaters dotted throughout Kochi City. It is one of the greatest dance festivals in Japan held on a grand scale. Each team freely dazzles the spectators with their costumes, music, and dancing as they play their clappers. The large teams of approximately 100 dancers each moving in perfect motion stir the streets of the southern land of Kochi and arouse the emotions of those who watch. A fireworks festival is also held on August 9 as well as a nationwide contest on August 12.

Creative performances where each team adds variety, ranging from classical dances to dances performed to rock music, can be seen one after another.
