日本古来の星祭り「七夕」を、国内最大級のスケールで楽しめる3日間。仙台駅前から中央通り・一番町通りのアーケード街にかけて、色鮮やかな「笹飾り」で埋め尽くされる様は、まさに豪華絢爛。周辺の商店街にも、昔ながらの素朴な笹飾りが飾り付けられます。折鶴などの「七つ飾り」作成体験コーナーや、短冊に願いを書くコーナーなど、「おまつり広場」にも七夕ならではの楽しみが満載。毎年200万人超の観光客で賑わう、紙と竹の優美な祭典です。

各店が数カ月間かけて手作りする七夕飾り。商店街ごとに審査が行われ、金賞受賞作ともなると溜息が出るほどの美しさです。

Three days of excitement in this event celebrating the ancient Japanese star festival of Tanabata on a scale that is one of the greatest across the country. Gorgeous bamboo decorations are displayed in the area stretching from Sendai Station to Chuo-dori Avenue and the Ichibancho Arcade. In addition, simple traditional bamboo decorations can also be seen in neighboring shopping districts. The festival space is filled with entertainment related to Tanabata including workshops for creating Nanatsu-kazari decorations such as origami birds and an area for making tanzaku votive notes. This is an elegant festival of paper and bamboo that is visited by more than 2 million tourists every year.

Famous shops spend months making Tanabata decorations by hand. Screenings are held by district and the winner of the golden award is so beautiful that you can hear sighs among the visitors.
