A refined dynastic procession that leads of to shrines that are World Heritage sites

ユネスコ世界遺産に登録されている下鴨神社・上賀茂神社の礼祭。約1,400年もの歴史を誇り、長年にわたり国家的行事として行われてきました。5月15日の「路頭の儀」では、勅使代（天皇の使いの代理）と斎王代（祭に奉仕する内親王・女王の代理）を中心とした本列・女人列が京都御所を出発。総勢500名以上の風雅な王朝行列が、下鴨神社を経て上賀茂神社へ向かいます。5月3日の「流鏑馬神事」をはじめ、5月上～中旬にさまざまな前儀・後儀も行われます。

王朝行列が下鴨神社・上賀茂神社に到着すると、神馬の引き回しや古代の舞などを奉納する「社頭の儀」が開催されます。

A regular festival at Shimogamo Shrine and Kamigamo Shrine, which are designated UNESCO World Heritage sites. It boasts a history of about 1,400 years and has been held as a national event for many years. The main procession and women’s procession, which centers on the imperial representative and the representative of the princess/queen who serves at festivals, departs from the Imperial Palace in Kyoto at the ceremony held out on the streets on May 15.
A refined dynastic procession of a 500-strong group of people passes through Shimogamo Shrine and heads towards Kamigamo Shrine. Various pre-ritual and post-ritual events are held from early- to mid-May, including the Shinto horseback archery ritual on May 3.

When the dynastic procession arrives at Shimogamo Shrine and Kamigamo Shrine, there are events such as the leading of a sacred horse and a shrine ceremony where ancient dances are dedicated to the gods.
