有名な「男鹿のナマハゲ」を体感できる！ナマハゲによる踊り・和太鼓は迫力満点
Experience the famous “Oga Namahage”!
The dancing and drumming by the Namahage ogres is very exciting to watch.

人々の怠けた心を戒める神様「ナマハゲ」に扮した若者が、大晦日の晩に「怠け者はいねが、泣く子はいねが」と声を上げながら家々を練り歩く、国の重要無形民俗文化財「男鹿のナマハゲ」。男鹿市に伝わるこの民俗行事と神事「柴灯祭」を組み合わせ、真山神社で開催される観光行事が「なまはげ柴灯まつり」です。大晦日の行事を再現したり、ナマハゲが勇壮な踊りや和太鼓を披露するなど、多様な催しで観光客を魅了します。

まつりのクライマックスでは、ナマハゲが雪山から降り、境内を練り歩きます。松明をかざしながら下山する姿はとても幻想的。


“Oga Namahage” is a nationally designated Intangible Folk Cultural Asset where youths dressed as Namahage ogres, which are gods that warn people against laziness, go from house to house on the night of New Year’s Eve yelling “Are there any lazy people here?! Are there any crybabies here?!” The “Namahage Sedo Festival” is a tourist event held at Shinzan Shrine, where this folk event of Oga City is combined with the “Sedo Festival”. It captivates all kinds of tourists with the recreation of New Year’s Eve festivities, the valiant dancing and beating of Japanese drums by Namahage ogres, and more.

The climax of the festival is when the Namahage ogres come down a snowy mountain and walk through the grounds. The scenery where they head toward the bottom of the hills as they hold their torches is surreal.
