編み笠をかぶり唄い踊る様は幻想的！300年余りも愛される山あいの民謡行事
The sight of the performers singing and dancing while wearing woven hats is surreal!
A folk event held in the mountain ravines that has been endeared for over three hundred years

格子戸の民家や土蔵など、昔ながらの面影を残す坂の町・越中八尾。
この地で300年余りも踊り継がれてきた、あまりに優美な民謡行事です。11の町がそれぞれ行う「町流し」は、揃いの浴衣・法被をまとい、編み笠から少しだけ顔を覗かせた人々が、ぼんぼりが灯った通りを唄い踊りながら流し歩きます。
町ごとに工夫を凝らした演技を披露する「演舞場」（有料）も見物。22時頃から福島の駅前通りなどで開催される「輪踊り」には一般の観光客も参加できます。
唄い手・囃子・三味線・胡弓・太鼓が奏で合う「地方（じかた）」が、哀調漂う幻想的な雰囲気を生みだしています。

Etchu Yatsuo is a hilly town that still retains its features from long ago such as folk homes and storehouses with lattices.
It holds an extremely graceful folk event where its dance has been performed for over three hundred years called Machinagashi festival, which is held by the eleven zones of the town. Performers in matching yukatas and happi coats march along the streets lit with paper lanterns while peeking through their woven hats as they sing and dance.
The theater (paid), where various performances by different zones are given, is also a sight to see. Regular tourists can also participate in the Wa Odori dance held on the street in front of the Station at around 10 p.m.
The sitting characters that stay in motion with the sounds of the singers, musicians, and their instruments such as shamisens, Chinese fiddles, and drums create a plaintive and surreal atmosphere.
