世界遺産に輝く日光東照宮で、400年前の壮大な武者行列を再現
A recreation of a magnificent four-hundred-year-old warrior procession at the World Heritage site of Nikko Toshogu Shrine

ユネスコ世界文化遺産に登録された社殿群を有する、日光東照宮の大祭。2日目の10月17日、秋季祭祭典に続いて11時から行われるのが「百物揃千人武者行列」と呼ばれる渡御祭です。
将軍・徳川家康公の神霊を駿府久能山から日光へ改葬した400年前の行列を再現。神霊を御旅所へお渡しする御神輿に、鎧武者・弓持・鎗持・猿牽・鷹匠などに扮した800余人の日光市民が行列を組んで供奉する様は圧巻です。その後に御旅所で行われる祭典や神楽の舞も必見。
10月16日の13時からは表参道で「流鏑馬神事」を奉納。走っている馬上から的を射る、武士の妙技に魅了されます。

A grand festival of Nikko Toshogu Shrine, where the “UNESCO World Heritage Site Shrines and Temples of Nikko” are located. On the second day of autumn festivities on October 17 at 11 a.m. is a parade where a portable shrine is carried in a procession of a thousand warriors dressed in a hundred different outfits. It is the recreation of a procession that occurred four hundred years ago where the spirit of Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa was transferred from Mount Kuno in Sunpu to Nikko. The portable shrine with the spirit being transferred to the midway resting point along with over eight hundred citizens of Nikko City dressed as armored warriors, archers, spearmen, monkey handlers, and falconers forming a procession all make for an overwhelming sight. The following festival along with Shinto music and dancing at the midway resting point are also must-see attractions. The Shinto Horseback Archery Ritual is held at the front approach from 1 p.m. on October 16. You will be astounded by the prowess of the warriors who shoot their targets on horseback.
