2つの盆に生えた、色とりどりのカビ！作柄や天変地異をカビで占う伝統行事

1,300年もの歴史を誇る大原八幡宮に伝わる、小豆飯に生えたカビの様子からその年を占う行事。2月15日に小豆飯を炊いて2つの盆に盛り、作柄を占う「五穀盆」と天変地異を占う「地形盆」を作り神殿に納めます。1ヶ月後の3月15日に、白・黒・赤・黄色などのカビに覆われた2つの盆を取り出し、古老の判読により占われます。作物の種まき時期・収穫時期の状況やその豊凶を占い、市内各所の災害などへの注意も促されます。
米・麦・粟・稗・豆の札を立てた「五穀盆」と、クズカズラの皮で市内の16河川を象った「地形盆」の2つの盆を作って占います。

A traditional ritual where fortunes regarding crops and natural disasters are told with mold.
A ritual at Ohara Hachiman Shrine boasting a history of 1,300 years, where the fortune of the year is told based on mold that is grown on rice boiled with azuki beans. Rice is boiled with azuki beans on February 15 before it is served on two trays and offered to the gods at an altar in prayers for a good harvest and protection from calamities. A month later, on March 15, the two trays covered with white, black, red, and yellow mold are taken out and read by an elder who tells fortunes. He tells when crops shall be planted, when the good and bad time to harvest them are, and gives warnings about disasters that can occur throughout the city.
Fortunes are told with a tray with labels representing rice, wheat, millets, and beans, along with a tray depicting 16 rivers that flow through the city with arrowroot peels.
