8頭の鹿が、胸の太鼓を鳴らして踊る！哀調を帯びた旋律が趣深い伝統の鹿踊り

愛媛県西予市の山間部・城川町にある三滝神社で、春の大祭の日に奉納される「窪野の八つ鹿踊り」。8頭の鹿に扮した踊り手が、笛と鹿踊歌につれて、胸に吊るした太鼓を打ち鳴らし美しく踊ります。雄鹿が雌鹿を探し出す様を描いた、小一時間の舞。哀調を帯びた旋律と、それを刻む太鼓の音が谷間にこだまし、素朴でありながら優雅さや趣深さが感じられます。1615年に仙台の鹿（しし）踊りが伝わったのが起源とも言われています。

南予地方の祭礼に欠かせない存在である牛鬼（うしおに）。神輿や牛鬼の宮出しに続いて、八つ鹿の華麗な舞が披露されます。



Eight deer pounding their chests like drums! A traditional deer dance performed to the plaintive melodies.

The Kubono Dance of Eight Deer is offered on the day of a grand spring festival at Mitaki Shrine in the mountainous Shirokawa Town of Seiyo City in Ehime Prefecture. Eight dancers dressed as deer give beautiful performances while beating drums on their chests to music played on flutes and deer dance songs. A dance performance that lasts nearly an hour, where male deer search for female deer. Feel the rustic but also graceful and elegant sound of the drums that can be heard through the valleys along with the plaintive melodies. It is said to have been rooted in the deer dance of 1615 in Sendai.

The “Cow Demons”, said to have been an essential part of festivals in the Nanyo Region.
