燃えさかる松明を、鬼が振りかざす！約500年間伝承される、異形の火祭り

激しく燃える大きな松明を振りかざし、父鬼・母鬼・子鬼が人々の災厄を払う炎の祭典。鬼が幸いをもたらす全国でも珍しい伝統行事です。「鬼走り」が始まるのは21時。僧たちの読経や、火天が松明を「水」の字に振って祭りの安全を願う「火伏の行」に続いて鬼が登場。堂内が火の海と化す中、火の粉をまき散らしながら3体の鬼が堂内を歩き回る、異様な風景に魅せられます。
松明を灯さない「昼の鬼走り（16時～）」や「護摩供（19時～）」なども実施します。
狂ったように吼える法螺貝や、太鼓を叩く強烈な音に包まれて、鬼面が闇の中に浮かび上がります。

A festival of fire where a father ogre, mother ogre, and child ogre brandish torches burning wildly and drive disaster away from people. This is a traditional ceremony that is rare in Japan in that it involves ogres bringing good fortune. The ogres start to run at 9:00 p.m. They appear after events such as the reading of the sutras by priests and the Deva of Fire waving a torch at the kanji character for “water”. Be amazed at this strange scenery where three ogres run through the temple grounds scattering sparks as they become a sea of fire. There is also a daytime event where ogres can be seen running with unlit torches from 4:00 p.m. as well as a “gomaku” fire ritual from 7:00 p.m.
You can see ogre masks appearing out of the dark amidst the wild blowing of triton trumpets and intense sounds of drums beating.
