白鷺の頭と羽をまとって優雅に舞う！約400年間奉納され続ける古典芸能神事

津和野町に約400年前に伝承された古典芸能神事「鷺舞」。京都発祥でありながら現在まで廃絶することなく奉納され続けている唯一の鷺舞で、日本遺産「津和野今昔～百景図を歩く～」の構成文化財にも認定されています。祇園祭りのある7月20日・27日に、町内11ヶ所（27日は9ヶ所）の昔から定められた場所を廻って舞を披露。白鷺の頭と羽を身に着けて舞う、優雅な姿に魅了されます。同日開催の子どもたちによる愛らしい子鷺踊りにも心が和みます。

鷺舞は、高さ約85cm、重さ約3kgの鷺頭、大中小の3種の羽39枚を1点に集めて扇形にした重さ約12kgの鷺羽を身に着けて舞います。

A traditional Shinto performance art maintained for the past 400 years

The white heron dance is a traditional Shinto dance dating back some 400 years in Tsuwano-cho. This is the only heron dance originating in Kyoto to survive until the present day. It is part of the Japanese Heritage “Bygone Days of Tsuwano: 100 Landscapes.”

During the Gion Festival, the dance is showcased in 11 places in the town on July 20th (9 places on July 27th). The dancers dress in a heron head and wings for this elegant dance. Don’t miss the baby heron dance, an adorable performance by children on the same days.

The heron dance is performed wearing a white heron head measuring approximately 85 cm and weighing 3 kg, and wings made with feathers of three sizes (small, medium, and large), each consisting 39 pieces and weighing approximately 12 kg.
