四つ太鼓が勇壮に町内を練り歩く！豪快に押し上げる様子は迫力満点

昔から「人を見たけりゃ御坊祭」と謳われたほど大勢の見物客が集まる、御坊・日高地方最大の祭り。10月1日の幟立て、3日の肩慣らしを経て、4日の宵宮と5日の本祭を迎えます。なかでも注目は、町内を豪快に練り歩く「四つ太鼓」。顔を白く塗った隈取り顔の子ども4人が乗って太鼓を叩き、若衆が「サイテクリョー（差しあげてくれようぞ）」の掛け声をあげながら押します。約1tの四脚を両手で大きく押し上げる、勇ましい姿に魅了されます。

和歌山県無形文化財第1号の「けほん踊り」。生花をあしらった笠と華麗な衣装をまとう踊り子が、ユーモアあふれる踊りを披露します。

The Gobo Festival is the grandest festival in Gobo and the Hidaka region, and attracts so many people that it has been said that it is the place to go if you really want to see crowds of people. The raising of banners on October 1st and the warm-up sessions on the 3rd are followed by the preliminary festival on the 4th and the main event on the 5th. One feature that particularly attracts attention is the taiko drum floats that are valiantly carried through the town. Four boys with their faces painted white like kabuki actors play taiko drums on the floats as young men chant “saitekuryo (give it up)”. The sight of the roughly 1-ton 4-legged structures gallantly being lifted high up is quite impressive. The Kehon Dance is the No. 1 Intangible Cultural Asset of Wakayama Prefecture. Dancers wearing hats decorated with flowers and exquisite costumes perform humorous dances.
