艶やかな帯を太刀に下げて踊る大奴！300年以上の歴史を誇る日本三奇祭の一角

大井神社で3年に一度開催される、日本三奇祭の一つ。別名「帯まつり」としても知られ、その名の由来となったのが「大奴」です。左右に太刀を突き差し、その柄には艶やかな丸帯、先端には安産祈願の短冊を下げ、左手には紫の傘を持ち、独特の掛け声とともに奇妙な踊りを披露しながら練り歩く大奴は必見。10月10日に行われる「お渡り」では、大名行列を先頭に、神輿渡御行列、鹿島踊り、屋台と続く行列が、なんと約1kmにも及びます。

独特の衣装と舞を披露する「鹿島踊り」は、江戸時代の動作を正確に今に伝えており、静岡県の無形民俗文化財に指定されています。

One of the three strangest festivals of Japan, held once every three years at Ooi Shrine. It is also known as the “Sash Festival”, which is derived from “Ooyakko” (footmen). The footmen, with swords hanging on both their left and right sides, glossy sashes on their handles, and strips of paper in prayer for safe childbirth on the tips of their swords, marching through the streets as they hold purple umbrellas with their left hands while yelling out unique chants and performing strange dance moves, is a must-see. The Owatari parade, which is held on October 10, is one kilometer long, with procession of portable shrines, Kashima dancers, and stalls, led by a feudal lord's procession.

The Kashima Dance, which is performed with unique costumes and moves, has been accurately passed down since the Edo period, and is a designated Intangible Folk Cultural Asset of Shizuoka Prefecture.
