灯籠を頭に掲げた女性たちが描く、
はるか古代から受け継がれる光の芸術
Artwork of lights passed down from ancient times where women carry lanterns on their heads

約2,000年前の天皇に道を示した、里人たちの松明の灯り。
They are the lights of torches said to have been carried by villagers who lit the pathway for an emperor about two thousand years ago.

この伝説に由来し、はるか昔から受け継がれてきた光の祭りです。8月16日の18時45分と21時から山鹿小学校で開催されるのが「千人灯籠踊り」。
It is a festival of lights originating from this legend that has been passed down since ancient times. The Thousand People Lantern Festival is held at Yamaga Elementary School from 6:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on August 16.

情緒あふれる「よへほ節」の調べに合わせて、頭上に金灯籠を掲げた女性たちが優雅に舞い、幾重にも重なる灯りの輪が幻想的な世界へと誘います。8月15日に行われる、大宮神社の「奉納灯籠踊り」や菊池川河畔の「納涼花火大会」も見逃せません。
The elegant dances of the women wearing bronze lanterns and the layers upon layers of bright rings invite you to a world of wonder where you can hear as well as feel the Yoheho-bushi melody. Also, be sure not to miss events such as the lantern dance dedicated to Omiya Shrine on August 15 and the Kikuchi riverside fireworks festival for a cool summer evening.

頭上に灯るのは、約500年前の伝統を誇る山鹿灯籠。木や釘を使わず、和紙と糊だけで熟練職人が作り上げます。
The Yamaga lanterns, which shine from up above, boast around five hundred years of tradition. They are made exclusively of Japanese paper and glue by expert craftsmen without the use of wood or nails.
