古式に則り、騎馬武者たちが競い合う！甲冑競馬や神旗争奪戦は迫力満点

Warriors of Soma battle each other following ancient rituals!
Events including an armored horse race and a divine capture-the-flag battle are very exciting to watch.

相馬中村神社・相馬太田神社・相馬小高神社が、古式に則って執り行う祭礼。ハイライトは7月29日の本祭りです。甲冑をまとい先祖伝来の旗をなびかせた総勢500余騎が、行列をなして雲雀ヶ原祭場地を目指します。陣螺の音を合図に12時から行われる「甲冑競馬」では、白鉢巻姿の若武者たちが、駿足の馬にまたがって1周1,000メートルを疾走。13時からは数百騎が御神旗を奪い合う「神旗争奪戦」も開催。戦闘さながらの迫力ある光景に圧倒されます。

Soma Nakamura Shrine, Soma Ota Shrine, and Soma Odaka Shrine hold regular festivals that follow ancient rituals. The highlight is the main festival: over 500 armored horsemen with their ancestral banners streaming behind them head for the Hibarigahara festival field. At noon, the conch shell horn signals the start of the “Kacchu-keiba” horse race, as young warriors wearing white headbands dash on their fast horses around a 1,000-meter track. Several horsemen also compete in the “Shinki-soudatsusen” capture-the-flag battle at 1 p.m. The exciting scenery that resembles actual combat is overwhelming.
