ぼんぼりが灯る豪華絢爛な山車と、夜空を焦がす冬の花火が共演！

京都の祇園祭や飛騨の高山祭とともに日本三大曳山祭に数えられ、約300年間愛されつづける秩父神社の例大祭。朝から勇ましい屋台囃子に乗せて、豪奢な彫刻などで飾られた山車（笠鉾2基・屋台4基）を街なかで曳き廻します。屋台の張出舞台で上演される「屋台芝居」や、重さ数十トンもの山車を小太鼓のリズムで方向転換させる「ギリ廻し」など見どころは尽きません。盛り上がりが最高潮に達するのが夜。花火をバックに山車を曳き廻す様は圧巻です。
重要有形民俗文化財に指定される6基の山車と、重要無形民俗文化財の屋台行事（曳き踊りなど）・神楽はいずれも必見。

A festival at Chichibu Shrine that has been endeared for about 300 years and is one of the three great parade float festivals of Japan along with Kyoto's Gion Festival and Hida's Takayama Festival. Two umbrella floats and four yatai floats decorated with lavish carvings and carrying gallant yatai orchestras on thrust stages are pulled around the streets starting in the morning. The many highlights include theatrical performances given on the thrust stages of the yatai floats and the Girimawashi event where floats that weigh tens of tons are turned to the rhythm of small drums. The apex of the festivities comes at night: the sight of the floats being pulled around with fireworks in the background is overwhelming.
The six floats, designated Important Tangible Folk Cultural Assets and the yatai events (such as hikiodori dancing) and kagura music, designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Assets, are also must-sees.
